Tampa City Council Members: Put High Speed Rail Into Airport

Florida's high speed rail plans show stations at the Orlando International Airport and Miami International Airport, but not Tampa International Airport.

Some members of the Tampa City Council want to change that:

    Interesting that of three high speed rail stations in Orlando, still none of them connect with Amtrak or SunRail.

    Didn't I read something recently in the St.Petersbur Times that Tampa International Airport didn't want a high speed rail station because they said they didn't have room for it?

      Yes, the "lack of space" has been used as an excuse for not running HSR to TIA:

      Of the three main cities on the new HSR line (Tampa, Orlando, Miami), only Tampa will be left without a HSR station.

        One interesting fact: Tampa International Airport sits on 3,300 acres.

          From an entertainment/tourist view; Tampa has hosted four NFL Super bowls; 1984/1991/2001/2009 with more to follow. The TB Rays will host a World Series in the near future and with the emergence of USF's FB team to elite status, I see reason for Tampa International Airport to revisit the possibility of adding a HSR Station...The Super bowl alone generates over $400M for the economy and having a HSR station located at Tampa International would add yet another mode of transportation to Super Bowl advertising when attempting to attracting fans. View an article used be Oakland to attract the Super Bowl.

          "We like the site of our existing stadium," Trask said. "It's very centrally located in the Bay Area as a whole. It's on a freeway, and there are two public transport options that drop off right at the stadium. Where other stadiums are trying to figure out how to bring public transportation to their site, the Oakland site has [Bay Area Rapid Transit], Amtrak, and the Altamont Commuter Express."
