John & I attended the ribbon cutting for Sunrail today - 6/11/12.  There was a very nice turnout and much enthusiasm for our future commuter rail service.

Speakers included Bob Garcia - Mayor of DeBary, The Honorable Patricia Northey, Vice Chair, Volusia County Council, District Five, The Honorable Frank Bruno Jr. Chair, Volusia County Council and last but not least,  John Mica , US Congressman, 7th District of Florida.

It was exciting to see all the construction under way.  Hopefully Sunrail will be up and running by May 2014.

It does not take long to start up a commuter rail route on exisiting right-of-ways. This happened in Los Angeles with the Metrolink commuter trains within a little past two years after voters approved it. This was part of the work I did on the petiton drive in summer of 1989 to place Prposition116 on the ballot, with the Train Rider's Association of California, and we won during the June primary elections in 1990. Metrolink began operations in October 1992.
